Wāhine Rangatahi Putea

(NOTE: Applications are not being taken as the putea is currently under review)

The Wāhine Rangatahi Putea aims to provide young Māori women with financial support to access training, spiritual and cultural opportunities.

The putea was established by the National Young Women's Collective of the YWCA of Aotearoa/New Zealand for young Māori women aged 15-30 years.

The putea is administered collectively by a select committee consisting of National Young Women's Collective and Wāhine O Wairua representatives.

Criteria for applications

Who can apply?

  • Individual young Māori women, aged 15-30 years
  • A group of Māori women, with average age being 15-30 years

Who/what will be funded?

  • A group of Māori women attending events e.g. Hui, cultural festivals
  • Resources for learning e.g. computers and books
  • Grants towards overseas events e.g. Hui, cultural festivals
  • Individual young women in sport (Note: only in exceptional circumstances)

Who/what will NOT be funded?

  • Sporting groups
  • Equipment and uniforms for sporting groups
  • Tau iwi
  • Programmes targeted at women over 30 years of age

Information needed

  • A contact phone number for a local Kuia or Koroua
  • Two written references to support application
  • Evidence of knowledge, or attempted knowledge of whakapapa
  • Estimated budget and quotes

Closing dates

All applications must be received by:

  • 31st March or
  • 31st August
