Lesson session
Here we will be having weekly lessons from different artists. We will get to spark interest and learn about all sorts of different instruments and the people who play them. If you would like to give a tip on playing your instrument of choice, write in! Anything from beginners to advanced is great! Keep watching this space - we may organise workshops in the future where people can come and try out instruments. There would be people who can help, or you could just have fun inventing ideas and playing around.
First lesson - Starting to Sing
You were given a voice at birth. You can make sound, you are allowed to sing and anyone at any level can. Firstly it's about fun and enjoyment, not proving anything. It's about expression; your expression. Discovering your voice and self-expression is, for some, quite a leap into the unknown. Getting close to your emotions and hearing yourself can be quite daunting.
Breath
Breath is vital in singing. The breath gives the sound life. Getting in touch with your breath is vital to your self and to your singing. So the first exercise I would like to share with you is just concentrating on the breath flowing in... and out... with ease.
Think about slowing the breath down and relaxing.
After ten nice slow deep full breaths in, notice any tension. Is there tension around your throat? Tension in your facial muscles? Notice where there is tension, and relax it.
Take a deep steady slow breath in - expanding your lungs all the way out - and hold for a count of ten. Then release slowly, all the way out. Do this ten times and remember to relax.
Next, when you are ready, open your mouth and sing a nice open "ahhhh" sound at any pitch you feel is right for you. And think about relaxing and enjoying the sound of your voice…
Keep an eye open for up and coming lessons, you never know were they might take you. Or send us your own Lesson Session.
