Moving the Joys and the Down Falls

By Mary-Jane Graham

Fine and sunny, as work begins

In our small flat

Boxes full of gear

Bags packed to the Nile,

Floors to clean

Walls to scrub

And windows to polish

To leave the flat tidy.

Off to Oamaru

Trucks packed

Cars full

Music blearing

And the rain starting to fall.

Oh I wish it didn’t happen today!

The car pulls up to Oamaru

To find our truck has bet us to it.

Rain still falling

Never stops us though.

Helpers arrive and it’s all on

Into the house ad shutting the door

To keep out the rain.

Boxes in hands

Blankets thrown in cupboards

Kids playing on the floor

What more could happen?

To make moving such a chore.

As dusk draws near

Beds are made

Tea has been eaten

And all becomes quiet

Then it’s over

The hard part has been and gone

Our move is done

And we have WON.
