The YWCA are an organization that seeks to empower women so that they can reach their full potential. The association helps women and young girls to develop into effective leaders who can work in difficult conditions and make a change in their community.
YWCA's development philosophy is focused around participatory, sustainable and women focused processes which work to achieve human dignity, good health, justice, freedom, peace and a care for the environment.
The association was established in 1878 in Dunedin and has participated in every major change involving women. A great number of women in the past century have acquired their leadership skills with training from the YWCA.
